I am outfitting a new small shop and considering Powermatics new PM1000 hybrid saw. Its on my short list for a table saw and with rumors of a spring sale coming on I'm even more intrigued. Does anyone have any experience with this latest cabinet saw? I'm also looking at Jets 14" bandsaw and 1.5hp dust collector too, also included in the upcoming sale I believe.

William - Are you restricted to 120v saws or do you have 220v?

I do have 220 in the new shop and would convert the PM1000 over to it. I know the hybrid saws are on the lower end of the horsepower scale but for what I plan to do, 1.75 should do fine. Plus for the discounted price on this saw ($1999.00 less 15%= 1700.), I don't think I could match the quality.

I got the jet hybrid saw a couple years ago and regret it. The fence and adjustments are great but i find it underpowered often enough to wish I had gotten more horsepower .

Another saw on my short list was the Jet 3hp XACTA for a few hundred dollars more. The salesman at my local WoodCraft store says the lower HP Powermatic hybrid is the the better saw hands down.

The guts of the PM1000 look more similar to the guts of the Jet Proshop to me, while the guts of Jet Xacta look more like the guts of a true industrial cabinet saw. AFAIK, the fence on the PM1000 and Xacta are the same.

PM1000:

Jet Proshop:

Jet Xacta:

Thank you Scott. Yeah I'm leaning towards the bigger ponies now so the Jet 3hp is back on my short list.
