That is in Scott Jones house in Indianapolis, IN and was part of a $20M+ remodel about 12-13 years ago. It is solid Mahogany built up like a canoe out of small strips glued together.

Might be acting as an air curtain; warm air forced down to push out cold air as the door is opened.
