If you need a lathe and this one works, it is probably worth it; it even has some tools that come with it. I was at Harbor Freight today and they were having a sell of items with damaged boxes. They had several of their 12/36 bench top lathes on sale for $37.00 each. I didn't get one, but thought it might be a good deal for someone just starting out.

If you are willing to do the work necessary to clean it up and if everything in that photo is included I think that is a very good deal.

I'd buy it if the price is right. Rough bowls might be challenging but spindle work great.

What you have there is a Delta 1460. Mine was made in 1946. Excellent 12" swing lathe. With a little TLC you will have a lathe that you'll be a long time outgrowing. Of course, in the time you took asking it's probably gone. P.s. I put a 1hp 3 phase motor with VFDS on mine. Love it.

This is a great lathe that will never wear out. The headstock and tailstock have standard mt2 tapers and 1" 8 threads so lots of accessories fit . It had indexing built in and Delta has a 6". Faceplate that can be usedinboard or outboard. There are some issues with bearings due to a design defect that was addressed decades ago by a service bulletin. I forget the details but it was an easy fix and some later machines may not have needed it. Also some, probably very early, machines had bearings that were slightly in variance with now standard sizes. This was overcome easily with some shims. A 3 phase motor/vfd upgrade, as suggested would be advantageous. At any rate you would be much better off with this machine than a cheap import, assuming the price is right, all parts are there and nothing is broken. I think the upper price limit on a fixerupper might be $150.
good luck

It went so quick because the 1460 has a long history and a strong following. There's an easy $400 - $500 if you just part out the qick and easy stuff to sell. The cast iron legs go on average for $150-200, the tail stock $75-$100, the banjo $75-$100 not to mention the tool rests, face plates and starter.
