I flipped the switch on my Delta X-5, 6" jointer and it started smoking. Immediately shut it off and took it apart; contacts were pretty corroded. Cleaned the contacts and put it back together and it's working....for now. However, this is the second time I've had to do this and would like to just replace the switch. Nameplate shows the motor draws 13 amps.

Will this one from Grizzly work? http://www.grizzly.com/products/110V-Paddle-On-Off-Switch/H8241

I'll have to do some modification to make it work but think I can handle that.

You may want to consider applying a conductive grease to the connections. That you're getting an oxide layer indicates one of two things to me. You have a high humidity coupled with a poor mechanical connections, or you have metals that are not compatible in the connections.

Thanks Duane for your input. I had looked at the H8243 and will probably go with that one.

Mike...the fact that I took that switch apart awhile back and used silicone plumber's grease to lube it is probably what led to its failure. Won't use that kind of grease again.

Thanks again to both of you.

The switch on my Delta sanding station went out, it's stuck on and the only way to turn it off is unplug it. I took it apart, trying to see if there was sawdust collected in the works and there was nothing. Luckily, the switch can be bought on Amazon for $13 with free shipping (I found it a couple of other places for $11, but you pay for shipping). You might check there to see what it would cost to just replace the switch, it shouldn't be much.
