My dad inherited this plane when my great grandfather passed away. He has had it wired to a display board for the last 20 years. I would like to figure out everything I can about it. Using the hyperkitten website and google images my best guess so far is that it is a type 15, but I am not sure I understood all the questions. I did not use any hand tools when I was growing up so I know very little about the parts of a hand plane.

I plan to get restore this guy and get it all tuned up. Can any one recommend and magazine articles that would help with the restore?

It appears to be a Stanley "Four Square" --- a lesser line (below Bedrocks & Baileys) and aimed at the DIYer.
The giveaways are the lateral adjustment lever and the textured lever cap.

Try Rexmill.com for resto advice.

I thought the foursquare levercaps had the foursquare logo on them. Could be a transitional levercap?

As is the case with nearly every other plane, there exist more than one style of lever cap for this line.

Sure, and it's got the logo on the handle which look right. The frog and the sole look like they haven't been apart ever, and who would make a franken Foursquare?

There is a wealth of information right here on Saw Mill Creek:

Section 9 is Rehabbing Old Tools. Bob Smalser and I both posted on fixing up old planes.

That looks like the one I have

IF you clean off the logo on the iron, you will find an "SW" inside a heart....yep, these were made during the "sweetheart" era.

Mine is a VERY handy 5-1/4 sized jack plane! Iron is the same as a #3's @ 1-3/4" wide. I think that the handles from a "junker" parts #3 would fit....

Very handy little plane!
