This is my first time on this forum. Was recommended by a friend. I've been building furniture and cabinets for several years and see myself as intermediate in terms of skill level. I was recently asked to build a coffin. The person wants the kind that is not rectangular, but the kind with the angle bump outs for a person's arms. It needs to be a legitimate coffin, not something for a Halloween mock up! Can any one point me in the right direction?

thanks!

It depends on how realistic you want it to be. For just sizes and the like, check here: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Coffin

I made one of those for my dad when he passed away. Six-sided. Bottom half bevels out, top half bevels in. Flat top, flat bottom. I used biscuits for much of the joinery but would use Festool dominos now. I used redwood.

If you are a Sketchup user I can do a model for you, but would need the height and weight of the deceased.

There are a number of guys selling old style coffins on web sites. Lots of photos to look at.

Thanks Lee, however the reviews on this book are not good. Most of the people who reviewed it, trashed it bad.

Thanks Gene. I keep telling myself I need to learn Sketchup, but I never seem to have the time. It a long story, but the person isn't dead and his son doesn't want him to know that he is asking me too build it.

This book seems to be about as informative as any available.
