I took this image this evening of (deceased) Steve Jobs' yacht "Venus" as the sailing schooner "Bones" passed by. Old meets new. I'll take the schooner any day over that ugly "iBoat." It does put it into perspective just how big that boat is. Look closely at the person standing on the aft landing. They motored up in the dinghy, which appears to be 30' plus, and hoisted it into the garage from the side.

To to each their own, but I could have built an amazing workshop for the cost of that thing. :-)

Its not a very attractive boat by any measure.

Maybe I am getting old but I never liked that style of boat and particularly that one. It sure makes a statement though and can't be mistaken for any other boat so I guess he would have been happy with that aspect of it.

I look at that, and I see a restaurant on a dock. Then again, I like oak cabinets too;).

What, you need 20-30 million for a shop? :)

To me, it looks like a giant septic tank with and awning! :D

The OP said he'd have a nice shop with the money, but if you had the money to buy that yacht you'd also have plenty of money to build many many many shops in addition to having the yacht

I bet the inside is a lot cooler than the outside.

Try $120 million!!! I didn't say I NEED that much, but I could have! ;) If I won the lottery, I would buy a sailboat no bigger than 60 feet and sail around the world. I would build a nice shop, but not too big.

These yachts come and go all the time, and they are just symbols of how unhappy these people are. They never have enough material things, and then they die. David Geffen was down here last week on his $300M yacht. I don't even want to know the annual cost of upkeep.

Give me a tent, a nice sunset, and a starry night and I can be blissfully happy.

...they are just symbols of how unhappy these people are.

Do you know a lot of them to make an assumption like that?

Thank you, internet police.

No, thank you, Internet stereotype.

If I won the lottery and I said that I would build my dream shop, most people would say " With that much money, you can pay somebody to build furniture for you!" Of course, that's not the point. We all get enjoyment in our own way.

I'm guessing Mr. Jobs would gladly give trade 99% of his wealth just to stay alive another ten years.

You can't buy happiness.

I hear you can rent it for a while though.

I'm in the camp that money can't buy happiness. Most of the big celebrities can't even go out in public without lots of attention. Even though they have plenty of money they can't lead normal lives like you and I do.

So in Googleing David Geffen's yachts to see what they look like, I read this article about the guy with this one line that made me laugh!

"In Beverly Hills, Geffen owns the 13,600-square-foot Jack L. Warner Estate on Angelo Drive, which comes with plenty of Hollywood history. It was commissioned by Jack L. Warner, the flamboyant exec who founded Warner Bros. with his three siblings and ran the studio for four decades. Built in 1937, the estate lies on 10 acres and is said to contain the floor Napoleon was standing on when he proposed to Josephine. Geffen reportedly gutted most the home, but in addition to the floor reportedly kept a wood-paneled wall built by a Chippendale, according to the Los Angeles Times (http://articles.latimes.com/1996-12-08/magazine/tm-6822_1_great-estates/2). Geffen purchased the property in 1990 for a reported $47.5 million. Today, according to property records, the home is assessed at $54 million."

I picture an oiled-up guy in a banana hammock and a tool belt building the wall! :)

Well, I grew up poor and somewhere along the way I got much better off. I can say without reservation that being affluent is much better than being poor.

Well, his money outlasted his health. Hope he had some fun on that boat.

The boat wasn't finished before he died, so he didn't enjoy it at all.
