I've never made any kind of plane, but I'm going to try to make a 1/4" grooving plane this weekend.

I wanted to make one following David Weaver's tutorial (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?214301-Time-to-build-two-quickie-drawer-grooving-planes-step-by-step) however, I'm going to need to make some modifications. The iron I have available is from an old plow plane. It's 1/4" at the bottom, but the top portion is wider.

I'm thinking about creating a slot for the wider portion to sit in. On the opposite side, it to top can hang over and not be in the way/ Otherwise, the plane will be made as much like David's tutorial as possible. There's a rabbet / fillister plane I'm going to try as well.

My first trials will be from 2x4 material from the BORG, so mistakes only cost me time :)
