Recently I needed to sharpen the blade of the spokeshave that I had made from the LV kit. Although one can remove the posts , there isn't a whole lot to hold on to while sharpening.302514302515
However by removing the posts and reinserting them through the bottom, and by fashioning a handle to hold them sharpening became much more convenient302517302516302518
When I was happy with the edge , I inserted the posts right side up, honed the bottom edge and it's ready to go.
Probably not a new idea but seems to work. I put a small rabbet on the board end for stability and bevelled the ends so I could see the blade more clearly
Merry Christmas to all

Good idea. Make sure you send a link to this post to Lee Valley. They should include this idea in their spokeshave kit.

For what its worth I was playing with the sharpener this morning (my shopping is all done) and found that some spare 5/32 machine screws fit the blade. This made hooking up the jig that much more convenient.

Looks like a nice jig. I have the hock blades which appear similar to the LV and have had good effect using side sharpening with them.
