I've been asked to repair a commercial cherry finish on a piece of furniture (like Pennsylvania House). It has several deep gouges. I read that the best way is to fill the holes with whatever and melt on matching shellac from a shellac stick. I've never done that before and was wondering if thats possible for a novice at finishing. Any tips?

Thanks
