Found this blank in Colorado. Brought it home and started turning it and Wow, I was stunned by the figure in this wood! Tried a different edge and a different bottom on this one. Suzie saw it and claimed it before I even got it finished. Finished it in three coats of Howards butchers block conditioner. I really like the grain on the edge of this one!

Dok-----both bowls you recently posted pictures of are very nice and the shape is pleasing to the eye. The bottom on this one looks much better to me. Keep up the impressive work!

Nice looking bowl. If I had to guess, I would say that it is sycamore. The flecking in it is more than what you normally get from maple.

To me it looks like Western maple. I have a bunch of it because its a local tree. I cut one down and dried it about 3 years ago, been turning the scraps.

sycamore is the wood. Color is there, and rays are there. Good looking bowl. How did it smell when you were turning it, not like Maple.

Nicely done bowl. The wood is beautiful no matter what it is.

Definitely Sycamore, not Maple. Nice looking wood for sure.

Nice job on the bowl, I would have gone a bit smaller on the foot. Be sure to sign and date it.

Very nice bowl, clean lines and gotta love that finish. How big is it?

Thanks guy`s for all the nice comments. And for setting me straight on the wood. When I got it in Colorado I bought about 15 bowl blanks and some were marked and some marked wrong "obviously" Bowl is 9 /12" across and 3 1/2" deep.

Beautifully turned bowl. Love those flakes. There's absolutely no way this is anything but sycamore.

Definitely Sycamore, not Maple. The grain is distinctively Sycamore.
