This is my first attempt at carving. I wanted to keep the mass and the points on base, so I did not undercut the top like I have seen most people do.
It is Red Mallee that ended up being 12" x 9" x 3" tall. It has been finished with Danish Oil. On to the next project! :)

Comments and critiques are welcome. Thanks for looking.

Very impressive bowl Robert! LOVE that rich color! Great job on the carving! What did you use as far as carving tools? I've never attempted to carve anything - other than my initials into a tree when I was a kid - so have no idea what would be involved!

Love it Robert, the rich red color almosts vibrates with energy. This took some work, I know how hard red mallee is, but well worth the effort, just a gorgeous turning.

Robert, this came out great, a real eye catcher and a piece that would look super anywhere, just be sure it's kept out of site of the cigar smokers.... ;)

Thank you for the comments.

Steve, I used a Foredom carver to carve the flutes. I then used an Auriou rasp for the final shaping and it was sandpaper wrapped around a piece of pvc pipe from there. :)
