I was looking through the Rowmark page "ADA Alternative" directions trying to find the type bit I will need and came across this:

Grade I braille is a direct translation and often results in longer lines of braille. grade II braille is not a direct translation and therefore a more efficient use of braille that saves the reader time. For the sign maker , it saves time during fabrication."

My first questions is: I bought the braille translation macro for CorelDraw, on this site: Does it translate to the shorter "Grade II" translation? Secondly: The Rowmark page aslo states that the braille beads are supposed to be .09" diameter; is that correct? Because I was told they were to be .062".

Ok, one more: What is the right type bit to cut the 1/32" letter applique material?
Thanks so much!

Wayne,

Grade II Braille is required by the ADA Specification. Aaron Koehl's Corel Draw Braille script creates Grade II Braille.

Braille spheres are 0.062" in diameter. You should find a bit that will drill the holes about 0.059" in diameter so you will have a friction fit. I have shared a link in the past here to a company that provides the best braille bit I could find, if you can't find my post let me know.

Here is the link to my thread on braille drill bits.

These are solid carbide 1/8" shank 1.55MM round bottom spiral bits. If you are using a friction fit these bits are perfect as they leave a round bottom hole. If you are using an adhesive a flat bottom bit will provide some space for the adhesive at the bottom of the hole when you press the sphere in the hole.

FWIW these bits are suitable for CNC machining Lithophanes.
