Stan,

When doing instruments, furniture or other you will only want to do one half of what ever your tracing if the instrument or other items are symmetrical as this head stock is. You will want to mirror the other half..... another problem with your holes is that they are also symmetrically spaced off the side of the instrument ( tuners are exact they don't vary unless custom made or if ordered that way.... as in the case of a F5 mandolin. If you were doing this for real, holes would not line-up with tuners )

Personally would still do all this through the software of a good cad program...... photograph or scan... scale, trace in the program..... Turbocad, Rhinoceros, Solidworks, Autocad, FormZ.... CorelDraw...Others

There are many ways to enter data, if you want to take it up a notch then try 3D scanning if you like scanning/tracing. This can be accomplished using a program like Artec Studio for Kinect 9.2. http://www.artec3d.com/software/studio-kinect/ at a fairly reasonable cost.
