View Full Version : Foiled Again!! I Quit!!! (long W/pics)

Hi Folks,
My daughter recently got back into the engineering business on a limited basis. A small developer in the Milwaukee/Oak Creek area needed a part-time registered PE to review and put her stamp on their drawings for submittal to the state for approval. In addition to that, she also does informational presentations to the various town and county boards and city councils whose approval is necessary for her company to proceed with their plans. Sometimes concerned citizen groups are also on her schedule. She loves the job and makes more per hour than I make in a month selling wooden pencils in front of the bistros in the greater metropolitan area of downtown Peshtigo.

Anyway, she told her boss that she needed a special table for the drawing review process. The prices varied from $450 - $2000. He told her to take her pick. She told him that she would rather get her "dad" to make one.  I was REALLY ticked and decided to teach her a lesson, once and for all!! ;) Instead of going into detail, I will attach the letter that I enclosed with her "table".

Dear Ms. Tushaus,

The attached table should teach you a lesson. When your boss offers to buy you a “Professional” piece of office furniture – take the offer! The table in question is an original design and the result of a warped mind. There is absolutely NO continuity to the wood selection and the configuration is intended to make you the laughing stock of your office. A circus wagon has far more logic built into it than does this kaleidoscope of residual compressed resin.

To specifically embarrass you, let me outline the depths to which I sank in terms of discouraging you from further invasions of my time and tools:

· The base frame is made from solid Red Oak and the screw plugs are Mahogany. All are finished with a light Oak stain and three coats of polyurethane varnish.
· The table surface is made from a “cacophony” of White Ash (as used to make baseball bats) slabs where I made every effort possible NOT to match the grains! The monogram inlay, frame and screw hole plugs are, again, made from Mahogany. The stain is the boring old light Oak but this time has FOUR coats of Polyurethane to protect it from your vigorous attack on defenseless blueprints.
· The table extensions are Red Oak with Mahogany ends. Four coats of Poly cover the light Oak stain.
· The pull knobs on the table extensions are “natural” Cocobola. I finally got a chance to do a bit of lathe work. This gorgeous wood is NEVER stained. It is, however, “enhanced” with my secret “Witches Brew” for lathe stuff. Don’t ask me the formula or I will have to have to you “eliminated”.
· The “Flying W” is made from natural Bloodwood. Once again, we NEVER stain Bloodwood. Protection, however, is attained by applying several coats of Polyurethane.

I hope that you have learned your lesson for the LAST time! Your professional image will NEVER be enhanced by relying on your old man to contribute to your office décor!!

Love, ???????
dad

It did NOT work!!!

Pic 1 shows where my priorities are. :D
Pic 2 is where I try to get a bit of a tear from this demanding old broad.
Pic 3 shows me on the left.
Pic 4 is deceiving. It looks as though she is going to give be an appreciative peck on the cheek. WRONG!! She is asking me why I am taking so long to finish her new printer table.

The rest of the pics are self explanatory and the last two will be on a supplementary post.

Whatever, I'm giving up on this STUPID woodworking thing. I'm going to get a job as a "Tornado Chaser". It will be a LOT less stressful and demanding!! :)

Ken,
You're wrong!! Her printer table will be put WAY back on the back burner. I may not get to it until later this afternoon. That should send her a message! ;)

What an absolute pleasure, to see high quality woodworking on display AND read posts presented by a person with a fine sense of humer.
I haven't been around here very long, but Dale, your posts are refreshing and intertaining. What a change from the nonsense posted on "other" forums.

Pesh, again I am in awe of the proclivity of your work. :D

Next time try scavanged 2X4's, plywood, wafer board and drywall from a construction site. :D

You have been secretly working over the last 18 months building, sanding and finishing all the wonderful projects you've shown us over the last few days, right?

In any case I don't think Tornado Chaser would be appropriate for a person of your immense talent. Perhaps you should be placed on a pedestal [pointed of course] wence family, friends, nurses, SMC'ers and anyone with any interest at all could bask in the glow of the "Grand POOBAH" of Peshtigo. ;) Or maybe just throw water balloons. :D

Oh yeah, I understand you used the UW systems W without proper authorization for royalties. ;) :D The fine shouldn't be much more than a few million pesos. ;)

All kidding aside those are some wonderful pieces you have done recently.

Dan,
Please accept my sincerest welcome to our SMC family. Be sure to visit us often! :) I'm sure that you will be a lot more help to me than I will be to you - but I will do my best.

As you may have noted, I am proud of my family and my country. The nice folks on this forum tolerate my long-winded verbosity. If I throw in some personal stuff on my posts, they don't "rag" me on THAT!! :) Many of them, however, pick on me personally. Even though I am a very sensitive, thin-skinned, low self-esteem person, I LOVE the "flack". :D

With regard to the "other" forums that you mentioned, I am also very proud of the "lifeguards" who protect the Creek. They call themselves "Moderators" and even one ego-maniac calls himself a "Super Moderator".

Whatever, they ALL do a phenomenal job. :) Since I joined this Forum, I am terrified to use profanity directed at anyone other than myself. That's only fair, though, since I deserve it the most!! :(

Dan, thanks again for your kind comments and promise NOT to be a stranger!! ;) :D

Hey Dells,
You must be having a "senior moment". There ARE no construction sites in Peshtigo. Everyone was scared away by, "The Fire"!! :D I know that you are not sympathetic but my lumber supply is rapidly drying up. Thus far, everyone in Peshtigo is missing the wooden stakes that support their tomato plants, grapes, and other "climbing" fruits and vegetables. Most folks are wondering what happened to their wooden screen doors and the planking on their decks and patios. ;) I may just have to steal my neighbor's trailer and head southwest - HEH HEH!! ;) :)

By the way, thank you for your kind comments. I've never had one before! :o A question; what in the dickens does "proclivity" mean??

Either Karl is right...you've been secretly building for the past 18 months and holding out until now to show all your projects off, or you are the fastest woodworker North of the Mississippi. Either way, this is another case of some great work, Dale. I really like the "flying W". Did you cut it out on a scrollsaw?

- Vaughn

P.S. You spelled "SMC" wrong on the table top.

Vaughn,
First off, Dells is NEVER right!! :D Secondly, you've got the scrollsaw thing right. It was cut at a 25 degree angle. The only problem is that you have to have a scrollsaw that tilts in both directions (I think that that means both left and right) if you want the letters to turn out right. One other thought, Vaughn, if you cut letters with "curved" surfaces, it will take a bit of planning and some "hand carving". :(

Sorry about the spelling of SMC. Our "Super Moderator" will probably hold me in lesser regard than he already does! :D :)

First of all I'm not having a senior moment, I AM A SENIOR MOMENT!!!:o Like just a moment while I try and remember what I was doing [CRS].

Were you just a young pup at the time of "The Fire"? Did you start it whilst turning some Lincoln logs on the lathe? ;)

Geez, I thought you knew what that $2.00 word meant. I don't even know how to say it. :D

You sure you don't wanna be the "POOBAH"? The water balloons would be quite nice and have a cooling effect, while providing water for the grass to grow around your pedestal, as well as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. :D

Dale, not bad for a broken down old Nozzle Nutt, think what you could have accomplished if the smoke (CO) hadn't damaged all those brain cells. You really need to move away from that fire trap town. The work is very nice and the daughter is nicer.

Dale, real nice and great daughter. She must be proud of her pop with this one at work. I am in process of doing a silver chest for my daughter. She is toughest critic and appreciates wood and woodworking more than most.

i can see that you are definatly striken with the same illness as me and and many other on here. you seem to have a reversed, or sorta backwards way of describing things, that female you referred to as a "old broad" would probally have resented that statement had she not been brought up with the person saying it. and she aint hard to look at like you sometimes are, i am sure she must have goptten them looks from someone other than you. oh that illness we share, is apparently in-curable, but not nessasarily life threating. unless our siblings take it to the limit, and beat us about the head and back profusly to get out attention. see i got two of then thar daughters too that has me wrapped around there hand, not just there finner's nice table for a ole sickly slot racer.
nice use of that scarp ash that you salvaged from the crates at work.

Larry,
Are you an old crippled up slot racer like me? If so, let me know and I will send you some pics of my 20' by 8' 1:32 layout. I'm WAY too old to play with slot cars but I'll bet that my "RED ROCKET" F1 will beat anything on the planet - even with ME driving. :D  Remember, I've got home-field advantage. It's called a "kill switch" on the opponent's lane. :D :)
