Hi, folks --

I just acquired an old Rockwell 28-2C0 wood-cutting bandsaw, built in 1976. Looks to be exactly the same as the 28-200 (no idea what the "C" is for). The guy only wanted $50 and it's got a nice, strong-running Dayton motor, so I thought I'd take a chance. I rebuilt an old JET bandsaw a couple of years ago, so I basically knew what I was in for.

Surprisingly, most of the saw is in decent shape EXCEPT for the trunnion support bracket, which is cracked. Somebody tried to weld it back together at one time or another, but did a crappy job. I've heard cast iron can be difficult to weld.

I'm hoping to find an exact replacement. Delta's parts department no longer has them. Shocking, I know! ;)

Pictures of the part I'm looking for attached.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

- Jason

Only places I even found the part.....Did you consider duct tape?.....I would be calling around the country and asking where it might be purchased, starting with some replacement parts seller I found online. Some replacement part house somewhere has one sitting on their shelf collecting dust. Other option is to look for another saw for parts

Do a search here. Recently, someone else was looking for a set. Seems like they bought some from Grizzly. Ittura Design would most likely have them.

I already checked those places before posting here. The part has been discontinued and nobody seems to have one in stock. I haven't called Iturra yet (are they even still in business?).

Other ideas?

I would be asking the parts distributors I call who they think I should contact about the part. They may know more about who to contact than I do. It appears a lot of detective work will be required. Some place in the United States there is one collecting dust on a shelf in a warehouse. Have you thought about looking for another cheap bandsaw as a parts machine? It would probably be cost prohibitive but perhaps a machine shop or a sheet metal fabricator could make one, It cant hurt to check it out. ......How about JB weld?

Iturra is considered THE authority on Delta 14" cast iron saws. They have no web or email presence, phone only afaik. If they don't have the part, I'll bet they have a good idea where to look.

Yeah, I saw that one on eBay, but it costs more than I paid for the saw!

I'd rather spend the "real" money on replacement wheel bearings and upgrades like Carter guides, urethane tires, link belt, tension release lever, etc.

Here's a picture of my $50 find, by the way (below). I can't believe the guy I bought it from was asking $400 for a machine that isn't even operable yet. By the time I'm done fixing it up I'll have spent $400 or more, but it should be pretty sweet when all is said and done.

They don't even answer the phone over there anymore. Anybody know if they're still in business?

Not sure what you mean by a set. I'm talking about a single cast-iron part that Delta calls the "trunnion support bracket." I don't need new trunnions.

I've rehabbed 2 Old Rockwell/Delta bandsaws. Paid a bit more than you but not much. eBay is your best bet as long as you are not in a hurry. Thats where I've gotten most of my missing parts. Parts show up fairly regularly and you can get some for decent enough price but you do have to be patient. Other option is to keep your eye open on Craigslist for a beater saw that can be parted out for the piece(s) you need. Yes more hassle, but a way to go. Good luck. These are great saws and perform well when brought back to life. And some parts might cost you a bit more than you paid for the saw. $50 is a great price even if it needs a little extra work.
