I was wondering what you guys would recommend to seal the ends of freshly fallen timber. I am going to my mom’s this weekend and dropping some Walnut and Cherry and I want to save as much as I can so help me out here please.
Thanks
Tony

Anchorseal or the Woodcraft sealer. If you can't get that before you fell the trees, you can try latex paint but it doesn't work nearly as well.

Hi Tony,

I use candles as end seal. A paint stripper to melt the candle while keeping the endgrain more or less horizontal. It should be heated until the wax has penetrated the wood.

Success,

Woodcraft has a greenwood end sealer. It runs about $20 for a gallon. I used some on some cherry my husband recently got from work. It went on real nice and easy.....and clean up was a snap too.

I hear anchorseal is good, but it's more expensive that what Woodcraft sells.

Since I started selling turning blanks, I've experimented with a number of sealers. I like Rocklers Green Wood Sealer the best because it goes on nicely($20/gal)...But Anchorseal is the best price when bought in 5 gallon quantities ($9/gal)
