Kids These Days

I live on a small cul-de-sac with seven houses. One older gentleman, an army vet who never had kids, always sticks about a hundred 8" x 11" plastic flags along the sidewalk for Memorial Day, Veterans day and July 4 th. Tonight after sunset, one boy and his buddies gathered all the neighbors in this guy's front yard knocked on his door and invited him and his wife out. The boys, one with a trumpet, another with a bass clarinet (the sax player couldn't find his sheet music) began to play the national anthem the best that 12 year olds can. The old vet teared up pretty good. It wasn't the best rendition of that song I ever heard but it was by far the most beautiful. Despite what we may about the younger generation, hope is not lost.
