This bowl is Dogwood and came from Mark Cothrens yard from a tree that had died. I just got curious and finish turned it one night while waiting on stuff to get done processing at work. This is 4-1/2" across and 2-1/2" high and Yes....that is streaks of Pink you see in the wood. The pics really don't do this bowl justice. A very light BLO finish and then buffed with two compounds. You can still see some of the white diamond dust around the bottom ring of the bowl. I'll get that cleaned up soon.

Really quite beautiful! Amazing range of colors in that wood. Great job, Dennis! I am glad to see you getting some time on the big spinny thing....

Gorgeous piece Dennis! Ya know, if you don't put your name on it, people are going to think that Dogwood made it in 2005!:D

Dogwood is wonderful stuff...it can crack easily, but it also will bend and twist if you turn it really thin and wet...not as dramatic as madrone, but still fun stuff. Nice bowl, Dennis! Great color in that piece, too.

Beautiful piece, Dennis! :) Just saw your Canarywood bowl, as well. They're BOTH great, but if I were to choose, I'd have this one sitting on my table! Well done on both!:)

Very nice! I have a dogwood tree in my front yard that died this spring...Wonder if it's pink inside, or is that just an Arky trait?

Before I had to store all my tools I had some spalted dogwood limbs that I turned Christmas ornaments from. Lots of pink but some of the spalting was bright red! Only one limb but it was outstanding color!!

There stored with Christmas stuff or I would show a photo. Pink was not uncommon in dead dogwood I found. I think it part of the spalting process.

I have two peices in my shop now that are of a lamp I started 10 years ago and just found. (long story) but they a pink color to them.
