I would love to see a solar powered generator that could handle an air conditioner. I would also love this to be portable. Now all you geniuses get to work and do a large for the poor home owners of this country.

All you need is about $20K and you could have solar power with battery backup to run your air conditioner.!!! :p

...and that $20,000 would be only $12,000 in California with PG&E and state credits. Unfortunately, it needs to be afixed to the structure so portability is not possible (guess you could do it with a mobile home, hmmm, that would make it portable albeit a tad inconvenient)

I would like to suggest an alternative. There is probably enough talent here at SMC to design and build a hydrogen generator powered by a solar panel that would generate enough fuel to power a residential home and provide fuel for an automobile or light truck.

The Japanese have done it, why can't we do the same and donate our design to the public domain?

Why would you want to generate hydrogen to power a home when you can do it direct with the solor panel and storage batteries? Now, to use it to as a means to make hydrogen to fuel vehicles thats another story. When you charge the batteries they produce hydrogen gas so all you need to do is capture it.

I read about a good old boy saw mill operator who was powering his truck with methane from a burner mounted in the back of his pickup.
