View Full Version : Ipe Smoothers Semi Finished

If I get this picture pocting correct, here's some pics of 2 smoothers, one 45 the other 50 degrees.

They will both have adjustable mouths ala Steve Knight

I am using some metalworking ideas on these planes - the mouth piece will be threaded to accept a 1/4-20 helicoil and bolted to the body with a button head socket bolt. I am also trying something that HNT Gordon uses on his planes -

This a pivot block which he makes from brass, but once again i will be using Ipe blocks with a helicoil insert. The blocks will be held in place with a 1/4-20 flat head socket bolt which will be mounted thru the cheeks.

I actually made an MDF plane to see if my idea works:

I've got some fine tuning to do but so far my ideas look promising. Yes you can integrate metalworking along with woodworking.
