I'm about to move my old Delta 28-200 bandsaw, with a riser, to a new location and want to take the opportunity to replace the 3/4 horsepower motor with a more powerful one. I wonder if the following motor would be adequate: and appropriate. http://www.harborfreight.com/2-horsepower-compressor-duty-motor-67842-8287.html

Thanks, in advance, for all the help and advice.

I'd spend the extra $100 and get a Leeson or Baldor.

I agree with Peter. Only Asian motor I would buy is from Techtop. My motor guy says they are the pick of the overseas litter. Dave

The listing for that motor is wonky.

It says it's a 2 pole motor, then says it's 1,800 RPM.

In the US a 2 pole motor would be slightly less than 3,600 RPM.

I wouldn't upgrade the motor until I tried it out.

3/4 HP is plenty for a small bandsaw, even resawing..........Rod.

I would not bother upgrading the motor, especially since you have a 3/4hp already. Save your money for a larger saw.

I'd think you'd want a TEFC motor on any woodworking tool. Less critical with an enclosed base, but still plenty of opportunity to suck dust in. Are you having problems resawing? I've gone up to ~12" in maple on my delta bandsaw without noticeably bogging the 3/4 hp motor down. I've been much happier sticking with the Baldor motors than the few Chinese motor-shaped objects that have been through the shop.

I have a 1.5 HP TEFC Baldor motor on my 14" Delta with riser. I'm glad for the extra HP; makes an amazing difference resawing thick stock. They put big motors on big bandsaws for a reason. After you add a riser on a small bandsaw you have a big bandsaw when it comes to how much HP is required to resaw thick stock.

You should be fine with 3/4 motor on your band saw. Consider upgrading band saw size instead.
