This is a recently finished turning that I just learned how to do from watching one of Terry Scott’s CDs on turning his Manta Rays. The wood was an exceptional piece of curly burl maple. It is approximately 8” square and 4” high. Since this was my first effort at using Terry’s methods, it was really quite a learning experience. I still need to work on getting the wing thickness more uniform. Overall, I’m pleased with the way it has turned out. However, I think it would have looked better if the dark wing would have been at the front. It would have also lined up the curly grain in the bowl, with a forward flowing direction. As you can see by the title, I'm planning on doing more of these. C&C welcomed.

It looks great!. I can't see any issues with thickness in the pictures. I agree with your assessment of the orientation but that is often hindsight; especially with burl. You should be proud.
