I just purchased a Laguna LT16HD bandsaw, and tried it out tonight. There are sparks coming off the ceramic guides (I think thats tge source) while cutting. Is this normal? Do I have the guides too close to the blade? Or is this nothing to worry about? The blade is a 1/2 inch Timberwolf FWIW.

Thanks!

Normal with ceramic guides. Mine does it too.

Ditto for the sparks. I upgraded my LT18 with ceramic guides, but read about the sparks before the upgrade. My machine is a 2001 model; a year or two before the ceramics were standard equipment. Never heard of a problem with them. Just be sure to wear safety glasses, like you should be doing anyway.

Mine spark too. That's normal. For spacing, I put a dollar bill next to the blade, and then make the guides tight to that. When you pull out the bill, the clearance should be good.

I replaced ceramic guides with ball bearing guides.

I get sparks when I rush the cut
and the blade deflects.

Set the guides properly. Sparks are not a serious problem.

I only get sparks with blades that have a little rust on them. Clean, new blades don't spark for me.
