View Full Version : dithering on wood gun stocks?

new to this whole laser thing and was wondering if anyone has had any success putting photo images on gun stcks with a fse 45w gen5 hobby laser?

Take it easy on me aas i know this is not the optimum machine for this but it is what i could get started out with. Thank you all help is appreciated

I highly suggest practicing on some junk wood (and then some of the same wood the stock is made out of) before attempting it on the stock itself. Mistake there can be costly.

I wholly agree with Dan: practice on a scrap piece first. I would recommend starting with a monochrome (2-bit) image and modify the resolution according to the image detail and available area for engraving.

I would think that the stock is a hardwood species - if you are going to run a test/scrap piece, use a hardwood if not the same species.

Don'tDon't try to put a photo on a walnut or other darkwood stock. They usually look pretty bad. Stick to light colored wood to get the right contrast. Dark stocks should have line art only
