I'm cutting several curved pieces with a router.trammel and have been using a 3/8 straight bit with mixed results. The cut is smooth enough but the chips are not clearing effectively. I'm cutting plywood, mdf and solid wood for this particular project.

I use 1/2 inch single flute carbide, they cut much faster than two flute. And there a newer type some here use, sure some
one will refresh my memory.

My favorite is a 1/4" Woodcraft $5 bit (remember those?) Once I cut half the head off a drywall screw, but bit was undamaged. Still use it regularly.

Would make a templet and rout the work from that.
Would use a solid carbide short 1/4"D cutter to rout a thin ply or MDF templet.
To transfer the pattern to the work after wasting:
Nothing <3/4" D x 1/2 shank. Use a collar and you can waste in stages. Will forgive a lot of sins.
