My wife and I celebrated our 30th a couple of weeks ago with a drive about. We started in San Jose -> Yosemite -> Death Valley -> Las Vegas -> Santa Barbara -> San Simeon (Hearst Castle) -> San Jose. 1,615 miles in 8 days.

I thought I would show you the "highpoint" and the "lowpoint" of our trip.

Yosemite has an unbelievable vantage point of most of the eastern part of the main valley - Glacier Point. This was June 18 and it had snowed that morning and the temp was 29d. The picture is the surveyors tag noting 7,214 feet above MSL. (In my earlier days, I climbed the trail from the floor to the top and back in 5 hours [2,800' in 4 mi]).

Three days later in the depths of Death Valley the temperature had definitely turned and it was 104 at 8:30 AM when this picture was taken.

The actual low point is 282 feet below MSL but I wasn't about to go looking for it.

Michael, What was that mark embedded in? Looks like marble or granite.

Granite. Yosemite might have the greatest display of massive granite faces in the continental U.S.

Congrats on the 30th, and your trip. Sounds like fun.
Wife and I are working on our 33rd.
