Maple platter with pyro and dye

I tweaked a pattern that I came up with so that it would fit on a larger platter and also so that it would rotate more. I thought that it would give the piece more "movement" and now it reminds me of a pinwheel. http://www.woodturnersunlimited.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
It was originally based on a Pima Indian pattern.

I left a small foot on the platter to give it some lift and to have a place to sign it.

12" x 1" piece of maple, finished with Danish Oil.

Fantastic visual piece! Are the dark "beads" burned as well, or are they colored? I see that the white beads are bordered by a burned line in between, but the dark ones are bordered by a white line in between.

Jon, I am not exactly sure what you are asking. The entire piece is beaded and burned. The pattern is created with dyes on top of the burned areas.

Beautiful platter Robert! You sure have gotten good at the "woven basket" look. Retirement must be great!
