Heres a spalted oak bowl I finished recently. It's 10x3 and finished in Tung Oil. It started out deeper but it developed some pretty big cracks. So I decided to cut my losses and cut it down to make a shallow bowl. I'm gald I did, I think it made a better looking bowl. I cut the blank from an old oak tree crotch that fell about two years ago out in the woods behind the house.
