W. MARPLES and SONS Chisel dating

Greetings:

I have a buddy who has a W. MARPLES and SONS CAST STEEL 3/4'' chisel C/W Octagonal bolster and a tapered tang - no handle. It also has the 3 shamrock stamping.

Any idea as to the date? - from the 'net, I know they were producing into the '60s, but the later versions had SHEFFIELD rather than the CAST STEEL stamping.

Any help would be appreciated.
