some cherry round taper legs for a stand about 10" long? I need some for a MCM project I am doing but do not have access to a lathe. I can find legs but finding them in a round taper or oval taper is about impossible. Or maybe a better question would be from you expert craftsman here would be how I could make them without a lathe?

You could check with Osborne Wood Products.

You can do the job with a hand plane. Prep the stock to near the correct length. Draw a circle on one end that's the larger leg diameter, and a circle that's the smaller leg diameter at the other end. Clamp the blank end-to-end: a bench dog and an end vise are a good way. Start wasting away anything outside the circles. To taper, you're going to be making more plane strokes at the smaller end of the leg. It actually goes pretty quickly.

And you can make the legs with an oval cross-section just as easily with the same technique.
