This is the piece I made to participate in the WoW swap this year at SWAT. I traded with Johnny Tolly and received a small, dyed box. Now I have a piece from both Tollys!

This one is big leaf maple burl, but only half was figured, so went about piercing the boring areas! About 4" tall and finished with Minwax Tung Oil finish.

Comment are all alway welcome, thanks

Looks to me like you just got tired or cutting all of them holes. :D

Scott that piece is very well done and I'm sure Johnny would agree. Next year we will put forth a better effort to publicize the WoW Exchange. Hey perhaps we can push Alan to get a piece done for the Exchange. :D

I really like the combination of whole form and piercing in this work. Very well done.

Scott that is a nice piece of art work. Is the inside finished black?

I love the asymmetry of the piercing. Sweet piece.

Inspiring work Scott. How many hours would you estimate from start to finish?

Thanks. Not painted inside, although that thought has crossed my mind but usually after I start piercing .....so it would be hard to get the whole thing. The best method would likely be to pour in some paint and roll it around, dumping out the excess.

David, this piece is pretty small and so the time from blank to done was only about 3-4 hours (I think).

Scott,

That is a really nice piece. Your piercings are enviable. It's a great use of a half-boring piece. You sure made the whole thing special.

Very, very nice piece--especially the variable areas pierced. Beware pouring and swirling paint in a piece. It's amazing how much will wick through the pores and ruin it especially on weird thin vases. Cheat--try a puff of flat black Lacquer.
