Been a while since I posted here. Glad to see The Creek is still around.
My mom recently passed away, and I'm planning to make a keepsake box to hold some mementos of her. I've already searched this forum and found 1 or 2 design ideas, but would love to see more. If you could post pics of any boxes you've made, it would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Very nice, Kevin. Any pics with the lid open?

Here it is with the lid open. The bottom is lined with "silver cloth" to help prevent corrosion on the jewelry.

That is beautiful! Can I ask what type of hinge you used?

They're called "side rail hinges". They're sold by a number of companies but I found the best price at "Cigar and Wine Stuff" (http://www.cigarandwinestuff.com/Side-Rail-Hinge-p/cah-062.htm) - still too expensive IMO but I wanted a hinge that prevents the lid from opening too far.

295882 This is one I made for my daughter-in-law who lost a baby at childbirth. She wanted one to keep the gown, cap and blanket the hospital gave her. It has a small brass plate on the lid inside that has the baby's name and birthdate.

Here's a guy that makes a lot of boxes - Thomas Thornton (http://www.tomthorntonwoodworking.com/). You might get some ideas from his stuff.

This month's issue (October) of Wood magazine has an article on building wood boxes. They're fairly simple but have some good ideas.

I found that Wood article way too simple.
Try perusing Etsy for some ideas. There's also a guy named Boxguy on a competing forum who has skills.

Thanks Alan. Nothing is too simple for me though ;-)
