This Black Cherry burl bowl is 13” (330mm) in diameter x 4 ½” (114mm) high. The rim is 3/8” (9.5mm) and tapers down to ¼” (6.35mm) walls. The bowl was sanded to 320 grit, given multiple coats of gloss wipe-on poly and then steel-wooled back to a matte surface. It was then given a coat of Renaissance wax and hand-rubbed to a warm glow. The bowl is well balanced and feels soft to the touch.

That has a classic beauty about it. A soft finish was ideal for that piece of wood.

Steve,

I don't usually respond to threads like this but this piece is exactly the kind of bowl that I would love to be able to produce. It is lovely.

Cheers,
David

Lots of interesting wood grain in that bowl. Well done and sure to catch a lot of looks and comments.

Steve, this one really is outstanding! Having seen the rough out in person when we visited with you, I can honestly say that the pics do not do justice for this piece of wood - it has loads of character. Nice rim treatment and just an all round great job.

Very nice work. I love cherry burl and you did a nice job showing the beauty in the wood. You had a great piece of wood to work with.
