I am working on a spindle moulder by T Robinson of England and i thought you guy may like to see how the spindle are changed. This one has to top support for 9" under the nut. A simple shaper with EBEC 7 Bearings but with grease lube.

Cool! Thanks for that, interesting arrangement. What is the bore on the spindle?

Pete its a 1 1/4" with 9" under the nut on the long spindle with the top bearing support for setting cutters blocks high . replaced the top bearing as the one that was in it was change to a lesser grade and is gone they/the bearing are no longer made but found old stock on ebay . that top bearing is close to $700 retail but i got mine for $250. The Ebec 7 6311 is the same bearing as in the old Martins yate olivers

could not let it go by for the $250 here is how i got it

Nice haul, Jack. Do you have transformers for different voltages? In my shop, I have a 600v for my sander and a 480v for a rip saw. Much easier than changing motors.

I have a Wadkin BEM that has a similar spindle change. It has the straight bore with flange, but mine uses a nut over the flange.

Wasn't there some kind of connection/partnership between Wadkin & Robinson?

Ya got all the voltages 120 /240 single and 208 /240/600 3 phase with about 5 machine on VFD too. it is running in the drive way on 600. I'm not changing this motor it a real nice English Electric motor company with better bearaing than most woodworking machines

I have a Bursgeen BRS spindle moulder with that type spindle mount but its alot shorter though. Robinson was beter than wadkin in alot of cases and have a history going back 50 years earlier than wadkin who started out with the Pattern miller it was sort of a bridge port mill for woodwork in the pattern shops and ran on line belts in 1897. no relation to Robinson until the 80s when the Wadkin group was use to buy up all the remaining machine maker including Robinson who were in serious decline and strip there asset in the name of globalization. Wadkin sold Robinson flower milling operation that was profitable to the Japanese and use that money to buy all the other remaining makers. those that held out did not remain many year longer.
