I have a D-Win 640. 80 watt laser engraver. 600 by 900 mm table. The 6 inch exhaust duct that came with it is really cheap and thin. The exhaust fan creates enough suction that the hose collapses rather than allows complete evacuation. Does anybody know of a suitable upgrade for this problem.

Thanks

Len Laviolette.

I used this stuff:

I have it fed into a HVAC squirrel cage fan mounted to my basement window. I see the hose shrink lengthwise when I fire up the blower but it is supported by the steel spiral wire inside it. If you use it, you might want to add 25% to the length you cut to allow for it to shorten when you begin pulling the air through.

Most of my customers use the same as above with no problems. Though, I've seen the weaker variety collapse with high static pressures. It's kind of funny when it happens.

Get a dust collector PVC flexible hose like this one............http://www.harborfreight.com/4-inch-x-10-ft-transparent-dust-collector-hose-96478.html

Check out Wynn Filter... they sell a number of different options at great prices, including left- and right-handed clamps for the spiral hosing.

If you can do it, hard pipe (sheet metal) either aluminum or galvanized will give you a lot less restriction than any flex pipe.

That is absolutely true. Corrugated and spiral pipes do restrict flow (both fluid and gases) more than smooth-walled pipes. However, its unlikely that there is significant restrictions at these short lengths. And likely the blower is already overrated based on pipe diameter in most of these air evacuation systems anyway. You might be able to measure the difference in CFM but I think its not going to be a significant difference in favor of smooth-wall pipe but there will be a difference. Not worth the additional cost and install time cutting and fitting IMHO. The smooth wall pipe also suffers from multiple joints, all of which should be sealed up with aluminum tape.
