I just picked this up and I am curious as to what it is.

It has a very thick blade (over a 1/16th). The teeth are not sharp but it looks as though they were made to be so. The edge opposite the teeth has a bevel cut into it.

The blade looks like it continues through the beech(?) handle and is riveted in place.

Is this a saw that is used to cut meat?

Survival Saw? Cut some firewood at a campsite? Needs a scabboard, though.

Military issue I believe for far north manoevers.
Used to cut ice and snow (e.g. to build snow walls etc to shelter/hide stuff)
Mine has a detachable handle

We made an 18th. C. pruning saw that had very large teeth like that.Even larger,in fact. It was for a costumed gardener. He explained 18th. C. gardening practices to the public.

I'm not saying that is a pruning saw.

Interesting. Do you have experience with a device like this?

Do you know what it was called?

I just did a search for "snow saw" and found many similar looking tools although none an exact match.

What gleam angle would the collective recommend for a snow saw? Rip or X cut seems redundant at this point.

When I took survival training, they called it a snow saw. We had to use it to make shelter. Cold weather survival really sucks........

....except for the alternative.

Thanks,
Snow saw it is.

After looking at this a little more I found that it has a fair amount of set in the teeth. I imagine if you were cutting ice, a little set would be good. It actually looks like it could be sharpened quite easily.

PS. I meant to say Fleam angle not gleam
