Hello!

At first - sorry for my bad english. Iīm German.

I got an old Woodturning-Lathe from 1929. Originally itīs a machine to produce wooden wheels of waggons.

It has a different thread than the usual german thread on itīs spindle-stock. I think its a 1 1/2" x 6 thread. I heard this is a usual thread in England and USA. Is that true?
It would be great if anybody could help me and give me an adress where I could order a Face-Plate with a 1 1/2" x 6 thread.

Here are some Pictures of the machine: http://www.drechsler-forum.de/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=255717#255717

Thank you very much and Greetings from Germany!

John

John, I know Oneway carries adapters for their chucks in that size. You didn't mention if you wanted a chuck or just a faceplate. Something to consider. Here is the link: Oneway (http://www.oneway.ca/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=96&Itemid=29)

Found a couple of other places offering chuck adapters: Toolpost (http://www.toolpost.co.uk/pages/Chucks___Accessories/Spindle_Data/spindle_data.html) and Lee Valley (http://www.leevalley.com/us/wood/page.aspx?c=&p=52389&cat=1,44047)

John - the website you provided requires a password to read.

Consider purchasing a spindle adapter to change the spindle size from 1.5" x 6 (not very common) - to a more common size: 1.25"x8 or 1"x8

if you do that - you'll have a much greater selection of chucks or faceplates that you can use.

Best Wood Tools will custom manufacture a spindle adapter in any size - email them: sales@bestwoodtools.com

John -

Do you have a set of calipers? If so - measure across the diameter of the threaded portion of your spindle and post the result.

Then, set the caliper to measure 1" length, hold it along the threads - and count the number of threads and post the result.

The other thing you could do is post the manufacturer and model of the lathe - I'm sure one of use could find the specs for the exact spindle size.

and your English is just fine.

The diameter is 38,5mm. There are 6 threads per Inch.
The Name of the Manufacturer is: "Ripperger & Schilling" from Erfurt, Germany

John:

The Union Graduate lathe has a 1 1/2" 6 tpi spindle. This website lists several faceplate sizes for the Graduate. (no experience ordering from them)

The site that R Bell above posted is a good site to deal with. I got a face plate for my Union Graduate lathe from them. I also had an adapter made for the 1 1/2 x 6tpi l/h to 1 1/4 x 8tpi l/h from Bestwoodtools.com. They wear very nice people to deal with also.
