Has anyone had experience turning white oak burl? Attached is a picture of a burl I picked up today at a lumber store for what I thought was a redicously low price. It is roughly 12" wide and about 8" tall. I think I will have to look at it for a while to figure just how I will turn it. I am thinking about splitting it in half and trying to make two bowls out of it. What do you think?

Looks like a big salad bowl to me! Don't think I would cut it in half.:)

I would have to agree cutting it in half would be a shame. You could end up with nothing for to show for your efforts. If you turn it as is, you will get some really nice swirls and shapes on the out side edge of the bowl.

Good luck lets see it after your done too.

yes, I can see a big salad bowl.

It is wonder how everyone here at SMC can see such beauty in something like that. I do believe y'all are expanding my insight too. :)
