My Father in-law recently got a new carved cane and it has become infested with what I think is wood boring beetles. Does anyone know of anything to put on it to kill the bugs/larvae that won't destroy the finish?

How come the "Deathwatch Beetle Larvae" are killed in 5 min @ 125F...and yet it takes 30 min @ 133F???

Probably a typo. I bet it should have said 5 hours at 125F.
Also, I doubt that it became infected after you bought it. The bugs were probably inside the piece when it was purchased.
