I'm considering getting a Felder or Hammer saw/shaper combo in the near future and was wondering if 30mm tooling will work on a 1.25" spindle. It wouldn't seem so as the conversion doesn't work out exact with the 30mm equaling 1.18". You get your choice between ordering with a 30mm or a 1.25" spindle. The only tooling I have at the moment is a 30mm dado set which I believe would also work on the shaper. It would make sense that a 30mm tool would not fit on a slightly larger 1.25" spindle but could I buy 1.25" tooling and get a collar of some sort to make it fit snugly on the 30mm? Don't want to make a several hundred dollar mistake.

Hi, I have the Hammer B3 Winner which has a 1" solid spindle sleeved to 1 1/4", I also purchased the 30mm sleeve kit so I could use my dado set on the shaper, as well as purchasing 30mm tooling.

(Most of the world is metric, I can often buy new metric tooling for less money than new imperial tooling).

If you're buying a Felder many models have interchangeable spindles, I would buy the 1 1/4" and 30mm spindle in that case as well................Rod.

I have a 30mm SCM spindle that I bushed using Amana collars to use 1.25" tooling. Works fine, but a second spindle would be best.

That's what I was thinking. Getting the 30mm spindle and then using a collar. The router spindle is a $1000! Think I'll keep my router table for those occasions.

How about reporting on the machine you buy and the price. Seems you have to speak to the salesman to get a firm quote, unless they have a sale going on.

I don't believe the Hammer has interchangeable spindles so 30mm with a thin bushing to 1.25 would be most versatile. Felder allows for use of many diameters so if you have the cash separate spindles are very easy to swap on Felder machines. Dave

I'm leaning towards the Felder. I have a Hammer K3 and it's a great machine. My wife likes the color better! :)

I bought a Felder KF700SP in 2009 and I love it. I ended up getting the 1.25" spindle and the router spindle. They will negotiate on the price of the parts Felder makes. I chose the 1.25" because there is a lot of tooling on EBAY in 1.25". I've built out a nice set of cutters since 2009, brazed and insert. Most purchased for 10% or so of new.

On the Router spindle I think I paid around $600 for mine in 2009. I love it. You can't believe how smooth and quiet the Felder will be when compared to a router table. Almost silent plus you get great dust collection too.
