[my apology if the pictures lack the usual crispness - they were taken with my wife "happy snapper"]

The Perth Wood Show began on Friday and ends Sunday. Today - Saturday - I joined my good friend Chris Vesper, toolmaker extraordinaire, at his stand ...

There were a number of other friends from across Australia - David Eckert, who runs Lie-Nielsen Australia (his company, Henry Eckert, is named for his young son) ...

And from Perth there is Neil Erasmus, maker of fine custom furniture and runs a woodworking school in the hill area. Second from left ...

But also quiet Japanese tools ...

... displays of vintage hand tools by the Handtool Preservation Society ...

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a262/Derek50/Other/Perth%20Woodshow%202014/4_zps6de54d31.jpg

... and lots of tools for sale ...

Young children were encouraged to have a go ...

I had entered my chair in the furniture making competition. Each year I enter something to make up the numbers. I am probably the only handtool-orientated member of the Fine Wood Association, the club that runs the competition.

Derek, congratulations. The competition / show sounds like fun. I agree with you that carved jarah burl is very impressive.

The carved jarah burl likely leaves an impression on many a guy, or at least they would like it to.

Was it early in the day? The attendance looks a little sparse.

Hi Jim

I managed to take most of the pics before the crowds arrived.

That's a decent sized woodworking as opposed to furniture sales show Derek, and to good standards. Perth must be a fairly sizeable population centre….

Hi John

Here is a link to the judging criteria. They are intended to provide a balanced and impartial assessment:

Ian, Perth is a city with a population of about 1.5 million.
