Some really crazy figured Cottonwood. Not all Cottonwood is this nice but when you get a piece that is, it sure is pretty stuff. The bowl is just under 12", 5 1/2" tall. The servers are walnut and just over 12" long, turned handles and belt sander shaped on the business end. Mahoneys Walnut Oil finish on all of the pieces.

That's a good looking bowl and I like the way you did the utensils.

Beautiful! How did you keep the knots intact? I seldom have much luck with that.

Curt - that's a beautiful piece of wood. My experience with the local cottonwood has not been that good. Difficult to cut cleanly, wants to fuzz out when wet and, worst of all, it stinks to high heaven - can't even stay in the shop with the shavings...when it does finally dry out it's as light as balsa. I applaud your ability (willingness?) to turn this stuff.

That is really beautiful figure. I would have never imagined that from cottonwood. Nice work!

Nice on all counts. The serving tongs look too simple and I know that is not the case.

Curt Cottonwood, you did it again. I'm glad someone here has shown how pretty cottonwood can be. I assume you are cutting large trees with crotches? One good thing about weak, soft woods is that they seldom split or warp badly with a little care.
