I am trying to identify the tiles in the pic. It appears to be slate or maybe travertine. It is smooth faces and are of 4 different sizes ranging from 1" x 1" up to 1" x 4" in random order. I've looked on the net but have not had any luck finding anything similar. Can anyone offer any help? Thanks.

I've seen WW1 era houses that had tiles that looked like that around fire place. Might be available from an architectural salvage place but I have no idea what the material is.

You might try posting your question on the John Bridge tile forum....long shot but it's free. http: //www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1

Yep, looks like a Travertine to me... by the size of them, likely meant as accent tiles. Usually those mixed sizes run in random directions, never seen them done in the same direction. Still, you could get the pre-made 12x12 sheets of random directions ones and cut them off of the backing to lay them down in the same direction. Any good tile shop should carry them, though you may have a tough time finding such a deep/varied color. Try BVTileandStone.com
