I have a Forest 8" stack with a 1 1/8" bore and an 1 1/8" spindle for the shaper and was wondering if I could use it on the shaper for those occasions where I want a slot other than what I have available. If there is any reason not to try it let me know.

No reasons if max diameter and spindle/tooling speeds are compatible.

Your shaper will handle it. Slowest speed likely. Dave

As long as you can hit the 3500-5000k rpm range they are designed to work at or at least stay within the cutters max rpm range I feel you are good to go. Probably work better than a TS, more rigid arbor and bigger bearings. I've been considering buying a dado with 1 1/4" bore just for that purpose, ridge and Forrest both sell them that way.

Thanks

The one thought was a 1 1/8 bore is 1 1/4", but I have a couple of new Oncrud sets on the shelf I can send in to have bored out. Normally I would have just done it, but see, I am getting a little more cautious in my old age.

I know of a number of folks on the Felder's Owner Group who have had their Forest Dado Kings bored out to 30mm and use them on their shaper.

Interesting setup there, Richard. Is that for making large tenons?

Not my setup or picture. It's a photo I grabbed off of the Felder's Owner Group.
