It's been a while since I posted anything.
My son Brandon is taking this bowl as a gift from the family to a Wedding of friends.
This cherry bowl was cored from a larger blank. The blank has been sitting for YEARS, I dragged it to Florida from NY, and now it's going back home to NY.
12 1/2 inches in diameter by 43/8 inches high.
Finished with Kukui Nut oil and microcrystaline wax.

Looks like a winner to me, but what is a Kukui nut?

That's a beautiful bowl. I hope to get somewhere close to that level.

Kukui nut tree is also known as candle nut tree. The nuts are VERY oily, good for the skin and (I think) a slightly naturally drying oil. I get mine from Oils of Aloha in Hawaii. Theirs is expensive, there are other sources for it that are much cheaper - which I will be buying in the near future.

Should not be used if you are going to put an oil finish over it.

Very nice, simple, well-turned bowl, just like a salad bowl should be ... love that cherry.

very nice George, thanks for sharing, have missed your stuff

Kukui Nut oil is traditional Hawaiian finish, along with burying in sand, sinking in the ocean, and process of taking the sour out of the wood
