I got this nice Craftsman disk sander, looks like this one shown. I only paid about $30.00 for it.
but how are you guys cleaning off the sticky residue left behind from the sanding disk?
I heard acetone, but that even did not cut it that well.
I ended up taking off the disk and cleaning it. I took a little gentle heat to the hub to get the disk off the motor shaft.
I used the acetone and a skuff pad, but it was still hard.

One poster on another group said after you get it all cleaned up, to put a coat of paste wax on the disk, and buff it off,
and this would prevent the residue from sticking on the disk.
I tried that this time, and It seemed to stick well.
as a matter of fact, it was ever so slightly off center, and I tried ro re-position it, and could not remove it from the disk.
It was close enough though.

Did anybody try the wax trick yet?

Dunno. Did you try mineral spirits? I've had good luck getting adhesives off different things with plain old paint thinner.

No Loren, just tried the acetone.
My thoughts are that acetone is a stronger solvent.
Thanks,

Yeah, I once damaged a guitar finish removing stickers with strong solvents and then I tried paint thinner... and facepalm.

My hardware store carries a product called GOOF-OFF it is for cleaning off my sanding disc. Just pour some on a paper towel, turn on the sander apply to the spinning disc. Works great, plus I love the name.

nice, cause it won't hurt paint. I had to re do some of my paint cause acetone got on it.

don't think l have any lacquer thinner,
Will lacquer thinner most likely attack my painted areas of the sander?
I guess I could continue to remove the disk for cleaning.
I see they sometimes use a heat gun to assist removing the sandpaper, I don't have one, I used a propane torch.
I don't know, maybe the wax will help.
Hopefully those disks last pretty long. I got 3 new ones that came with the sander.
What is a good place to buy them, Klingspore?
