I have several species of plum among my samples and they are all consistent with each other and with information that I have researched. Then I have what was given to me as Klamath plum. The face grain looks like a fruitwood for sure, but when I did my fine-sanding on the end grain, I found that there are no visible pores and it looks like a softwood, not a fruitwood (which are all hardwoods).

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with Klamath plum and could tell me whether or not they have any expeience with it not showing pores in the end grain.

Here are a few plum samples to show what I mean. These are all 1/4" square end grain cross sections shown here at about 12X (depending on your screen resolution)

Just looked at two bowls that I -think- are Native plum (western Washington) and I don't see any pores, but I didn't take a lens and look really close either
