I need a little advice on how to orient the grain on curved legs for a candlestand. I'm building a copy of this one as a wedding present for an old friend.

Here's what I laid out so far.

In the bottom try the one rotated slightly clockwise is my second try. My understanding is that the grain should run tangent to the curve in the middle of the leg. Is this right? What about flat- vs rift-sawn grain? Is it better to have the rift-sawn grain at the "knee" like the top layout or does it matter? Any other opinions? How do these look?

Thanks in advance!
Bob

I think that's about the best you can do with drastic curves like that. the table though is light, so I wouldn't be overly concerned with run out.
