View Full Version : Rip Saw / - Strightline vs Gang - Suggestions

Looks like I'll be replacing my Mattison 202 here in the next few weeks. Replacing the chain is just abusively expensive and I really don't want to buy another 6000 lb machine just for a chain.

The machine will need to process about 10 units of 4/4/ and 6/4 poplar a week. Generally 4 different cut sizes.

Is it worth looking at a gang rip saw vs a straight line? What older machine will I still be able to replace parts for at a reasonable price. (The chain on the Mattison can be $9k)

I think the argument against multi-blade saws is that avoiding defects is a lot more difficult.

$9k for a chain is pretty outrageous. I'd look for a Diehl or Mereen Johnson.
